Another German aircraft on display is the Albatros of which more than 1000 flew by May 1918. Germany's air ace, Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen (the Red Baron) used to fly an Albatros from airfields in the neighbourhood of Kortijk.
This aircraft was no match for the Allied fighters, but by using it in vast quantities, the Germans hoped to command the air above the front. It did not work out that way.
Our aircraft is a replica built in the United States, according the original plans. It was part of the Ryder's Replica Fighter museum in Alabama, USA, before being bought by our museum and transferred to Europe.
The aircraft uses a Ranger-engine.
