This Stampe is the first one ever built in France under license and therefor carrying serial no. 1. Hence also the 'Oldest Flying Stampe' titles on the fuselage. From an historical point of view it is a valuable asset. Contrary to most of the other aircraft in our collection it has been equipped with an English Gipsy Major engine, instead of the usual Renault power source.
Between 1945 and 1950 it was in service with the French Naval Forces. Later it received the French civil markings F-BFVA. It was sold to the United States in 1976 and registered as N9480A, where it ended up in storage between 1981 and 1991.
In 1991, ASC chairman Danny Cabooter found it stored in non-flying condition in a garage. It was bought, transferred to Belgium and restored by Gerrit Titeca. Once the restoration completed it was flown to Antwerp and has been in the ASC collection ever since.
